Fushi no Kami - Volume 1, Chapter 9

T/N: Thank you so much for leaving comments! I didn't expect it at all. I really appreciate it! - - - - -  (Fast update at https://silver-slime.blogspot.com/) After a while, the study session ends as the sun begins to set. Priest Folke ordered that Miss Maika's should be sent because it is already dark, so now we are walking to the village mayor's house. I want to call myself a gentleman, so I have no complaints about sending a woman back, but I wonder what the grinning face of Priest Folke was. "What... kind of book are you reading right now?" Miss Maika asks about the book I'm holding. By the way, Miss Maika is holding onto a manuscript. I ask her to read and write what she learned today when she had free time. "I'm reading a book about various grass and trees." "Is there such a book?" "Yes, everything is written in books, including everything that is in this world and everything that is not in this world." "What do you

Priest Folke who is heading straight to bachelor is being too ridiculous. Miss Maika's studies should start by the next day, but I was forced to teach her. There is no upcoming festival, so the work Priest Folke is talking about must be related to decipher ancient words. This is, without doubt, sabotage toward priesthood. The holy war that once had ended, has been declared again. However, the holy war is barely avoided as it holds a powerful advantage for me. That is the fact that the village mayor's family has told my family. My father, who keeps muttering sarcasm, had told me to do work moderately and go to the church. What a refreshing feeling! Since my workload has decreased, I could take my time reading through books after books while teaching her. It's awkward when you think of Miss Maika's position, but it's a trivial problem that'll make you laugh.  "So that's what it is read. How about giving a try?" "Oh, yes. I'll try, Ash."

Since the case with the travelling merchant, Mr. Quid, my father no longer complains when I read a book. Though he still appears sarcastic, there are no more direct insults as before. It feels like I have taken the first step to create a life that is easier to live in. That's why I am able to visit Priest Folke with light steps. "Priest Folke, are you eating properly? "Are you my wife?" What is this person saying to a child? I just care about the physical condition of a research idiot that deserves more than being in this remote place. Also, same-sex marriage is not allowed in this world. "What outrageous thing are you saying?" "Because you're too noisy. Also, you're quite cheeky while talking to adults too." "Please look at your management ability which is worrisome for children before insisting that you are an adult." "As usual, you're still a talkative guy ..." If you combine the memories of previous life, my age

Since then, Priest Folke has been spending much time trying to understand ancient languages. He will honestly turn into a dead priest like before if I leave him alone, so I make sure that there is food left on the table. If you don't get enough sleep, your thoughts will be dull and inefficient too. If you don't eat rice, you will get sick. In this world, the threat that our life might get shorter doesn't seem to be effective. Because it's a world where life expectancy is short (probably) and the case fatality rate is too high. We may die tomorrow, so it's no wonder that anyone is feeling the rush. Compared to my previous life, I have to be prepared for that. Around this time of spring, the number of field jobs increased, and there is only a rare amount of free time.  (Fast update at https://silver-slime.blogspot.com/) "Hey, Ash! Help me if you have time to read a book! You'll be lazy if you read a book! A lazy person won't have a wife!" When my fat

After farming ends, I run to where Priest Folke is while my father is swearing on my back.  "Priest Folke! I have a thought about what we talked about before!" It seems that Priest Folke is taken aback by me who rushed to his room all the sudden. Perhaps it’s because I look too excited even though I’m actually composed.  "There is something called a curse that was being used during farm work!" "Wait, wait! What's this all the sudden? First, calm yourself!" I'm calm. Rather than that, please listen to me carefully, Priest Folke. What are you doing? Give me a pen. Quick. "This mark is called a curse. It looks complicated, but doesn’t it look like a letter?” "Oh, oh. But, it doesn't look like that." "We don't use these characters, and I thought it might be an ancient word. But if it is truly an ancient word, I can’t think of what it meant." Buhaa! I talked too much in one breath and thought I would die. However, it see

The characters of the early ancient civilization have something in common with the characters currently in use. This seems to be the opinion that many researchers agree with. This is not strange, as the late ancient civilization, which is linked to current civilization, inherited knowledge from the early ancient civilization.  However, as time goes by, from the first half to the second half, and from the second half to the present, there are lost characters. This is not a mystery. In the case of phonograms, the pronunciations that were previously distinguished may become indistinguishable and disappear as the spoken language changes. A good example is that the three letters "え", "ゑ", and "へ" cannot be distinguished from each other. On the contrary, new letters might appear.  The problem right now is that there are a lot of words that seem to have been lost with the early ancient civilization. Perhaps the shape of the vocal organs has changed significantly.

Even in this village, when we don’t even know the exact date, I know I’m now nine years old when winter has come. My study is doing better than I expected. Handwritten books are sometimes difficult because of the writer's bad habits and typographical errors, but once I get used to them, I don’t mind so much. Although I can't say that if I don't understand the context.  Three months have passed since I persuaded Priest Folke. Today, I'm starting to feel that the days are getting longer. I have finished reading through easy-to-read stories. I don't know advanced vocabulary yet, but I'm no longer stumbling upon common vocabulary. It's safe to say that I'm no longer studying for reading and am reading the book itself. It's such a good day, but I have some concerns. It's about time for spring, so it's likely that I won't have time to read. Of course, field work will get busy during spring but,――My father seems displeased that I'm going to
